Are you looking for a diverse internship and eager to gain knowledge and learn in a dynamic and unique environment? Then keep reading!
What will you do?
You will work with the animals that AAP cares for. Depending on the department, you will work with small mammals, primates, and/or chimpanzees. You will assist with cleaning the animal enclosures and the department, and you will prepare enrichment activities. Once you are familiar with the individual animals and their groups, you will be able to work more independently. You will feed the animals, distribute enrichment items, and monitor their health. When working with the animals, AAP follows a hands-off protocol. This means that we do not touch or speak to the traumatized animals. This is not only for our own safety; by minimizing contact with humans, the animals can learn to focus on their own species for the first time in their lives. This greatly benefits their rehabilitation and resocialization, and ultimately, their rehoming. Your internship will also be shaped by your specific internship assignments.
What does AAP offer?
AAP is an international organization, and you will be working in an international team. This creates a unique atmosphere where, if you are motivated and proactive, you can have an enjoyable and educational experience. You will observe different stages of the animals' resocialization process and contribute to the basics of this work. Additionally, we offer a travel allowance on days when your student public transport pass is not valid.
What do you bring?
- You can work well independently after receiving instructions, but also function well in a team.
- You are proactive and motivated.
- You can identify tasks that need to be done.
- You have a good command of spoken and written English.
- You are available 4 or 5 days a week, including Saturdays and/or Sundays.
